Best Horror Movies Of All Time That Will Send Chills Down Your Spine

If you are interested in the horror genre you may have searched for the best horror movies of all time once in a while. I am also a huge fan of horror movies. The dark backdrop, chilly music, and beautifully executed paranormal stories are all I want on my weekends. However, not every horror movie impresses because some have loopholes in the story and some have very poor direction.

Therefore, I always look for horror movies that are top-rated, at least more than 7 on IMDB. If you are on this page, you must have a liking for horror movies. So let’s take a look at the best horror movies of all time from my personal favorite list so you can experience the chill without getting disappointed.

The Shining

When I talk about horror movies the first movie that comes to my mind is “The Shining”. This psycho-horror movie revolves around an aspiring author and his family who head to a beautiful but isolated hotel in a snow-covered Colorado. As soon as they get there, the psychic sons start to see horrific visions and sinister presences that influence the father to bloodthirsty violence. The Shining has 8.4/10 stars on IMDB and is a must-watch horror movie.

The Thing ( 1982)

This is another masterpiece and one of the unique horror movies. This movie is set in Antarctica and is based on a shapeshifting alien creature. The Thing hunts the US research team and can take the shape of any life form including humans, so no one knows who is possessed by “ The Thing”. This movie keeps you on the edge of your seat while the research team is trying to get rid of an escalated crisis. With an IMDB rating of 8.2/10, this is our second-best horror movie of all time.

The Exorcist ( 1973)

This is a classic horror movie with demonic possession. It has some very disturbing scenes so viewers’ discretion is advised. When a visiting actress finds her 12-year-old daughter to be possessed by a demonic entity, she requests help from two catholic priests. This movie has 8.1/10 stars on IMDB and can keep you up for many nights.

The Others

The movie is set after the Second World War. A woman named Grace starts to live in a mansion on Channel Island with her two photosensitive children and unexpected things start to happen and she becomes convinced that the home is haunted. With IMDB 7.6/10 this is one of the classic haunted movies.

Hereditary

After the death of her ill mother Annie and her family cope with grief as she and her daughter start to experience some disturbing paranormal experiences that are passed through generations. This psychological horror has 7.3/10 stars on IMDB.

Midsommar

A young American couple on the brink of ending their relationship embarks on a trip to make things work after a family tragedy. What starts as exciting summer holidays in a Swedish Village take dark turns as the guests are invited to participate in festivities that uncover the disturbing side of the paradise. This cult horror and mystery thriller has an IMDB rating of 7.1.

Talk To Me

This is one of the best horror movies with incredible direction and deserves more attention. Talk to Me is about a group of friends who become obsessed with conjuring spirits using an embalmed hand untill one of them takes it too far and unleashes dark forces. This movie is rated 7.1/10 on IMDB and needs to be applauded more.

The WITCH

If you like witchcraft and black magic this is the best horror movie for you. The plot of this folktale revolves around a family living in New England in the 1630s. While they try to live a devoted Christian life things begin to turn dark leaving. This fantasy horror has an IMDB rating of 7.0 and don’t watch it with lights off.

Barbarian

A young woman comes to a new town for a job interview and ends up ranting about an Airbnb house. She finds out a man is already staying there as the house is double booked. Her decision to still stay at the house introduces her to terrifying occurrences. Barbarian has a 7.0/10 IMDB rating and is a great mystery horror that you should not watch in a rental.

It Follows

A 19-year-old girl is having strange visions and a sense that someone is following her. All this starts after a sexual encounter. Will she and her friends be able to escape the unseen follower? This ghostly story has an IMDB of 6.8 and is an impressively crafted horror movie that I liked a lot.
